I know I made this comic about communicating with a boss… But really, it applies everywhere—at work, with parents, with partners, with friends. Wherever there’s a power imbalance or unspoken expectations, communication gets tricky. Sometimes we’re so emotional we can’t speak clearly. Other times we shut down and withdraw. And when the other person holds more power, it’s even harder to express ourselves with both honesty and dignity. But here’s the skill I’m learning (slowly): 👉 Don’t suppress how you feel. 👉 But don’t let it hijack your behavior either. Staying grounded while being assertive is a superpower. It’s not about submission—it’s about strategy. Emotional clarity gives us the timing and the tone to say what really matters. It takes practice. But it’s worth it.
