No more New Year Resolutions!
Only New Year Practices!
So this might be a little over the top but I really want to change the way New Year Resolutions are made and kept. Every year around the New Year people hope for a better future and make resolutions and then within a month most people break them. I know, I have been guilty of that too. Maybe you have had that issue too?
I’m trying to change that perspective. And when I say I want to end this practice I am serious. I will now make my argument.
Don’t just jump in! Don’t step out of your comfort zone! Slowly expand your comfort zone!
So why New Year Practice?
Well…everything comes with practice. The way we eat, the way we sleep, when we wake up, what we eat…Everything is learnt and practiced behaviour! Making a resolve is great but keeping it might require MAJOR changes. Which not a lot of people can pull off.
Research on habits and lifestyles also shows that your environment affects your habits a lot! So you have shaped your environment over many many years through your actions and habits and vice versa!
If you resolve to do something and then don’t make the necessary changes to your lifestyle? You might not be able to go far!
BUT, let’s just say you’re practicing! Practice is simple. You take some action with a desired outcome and then you see how far you could go! If you don’t get to where you want to go then you repeat the practice until you are able to hit that sweet spot!
It’s simple!
But isn’t that what a New Year Resolution is also for?
Yes. Also No. Okay so what I am also doing here is reframing. In NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming reframing of basic concepts can lead to massive differences in outcomes!
By stating that it is a practice you know that you don’t need to be harsh on yourself. Results will come but they will take time. If you’re feeling let down by your failures…you can remember that it’s a practice and all your attempts help you gather vital knowledge of what not to do! Of what to be careful of!
So why again am I saying this?
Because will power is limited. You probably have a million other things to do in life…what’s the point of burdening yourself with a resolution that you might not do so good at? It might just let you down.
By reframing it you know that slow and steady wins the race! So plan your slow and steady steps.
I hope you make some New Year Practices! If you like this then please subscribe and share! It really helps!
