Each thought consumes a finite amount of energy. The more you think about something…the more energy it consumes.
If you put a ‘problem’ in front of yourself, then the energy you put into it is bound to increase.
This ‘problem’ might be new to you…it might not be something you have solved before. The old ways of solving problems don’t work anymore. So perhaps you need to invest energy into a different line of thought. A different mode of thinking.
We gravitate to certain fixed solutions because they have worked for us before. Overtime that becomes the only way we solve our problems.
Solving the problem a certain way becomes a habit pattern. And that habit pattern slowly but surely becomes the only way you solve problems.
Sure…you may think that you’re being creative…but if you begin to solve the problem the same way you did before…your perspective is beginning to get stuck!
And we all face this issue. This stuck-ness…this point where no other solutions come to mind and so we go back and cling to the solutions that we have used before. Always hoping for different results.
Now if you notice carefully…I began by talking about how thoughts consume energy but then I moved to how we solve issues and how that becomes easier over time and then we eventually get stuck.
How is this related to energy?
Well…the reason we gravitate to a certain few modes of thinking is because they begin to consume less and less energy.
It doesn’t cost me as much to think about a new solution. I do the same thing over and over and it begins to actually help me…because I can now use the energy that I conserve by following the same process in different ways.
Do you follow what I am saying? Let me give an example!
Imagine every time you encounter a problem you take a pen and a notebook and you begin to write it down.
You write down the problem, then you write down the outcome you’re looking for and then you begin the brainstorming process.
“How do I get from here to there?”
Perhaps that’s what you do. Or maybe there is another method that you follow.
Initially this process will consume your energy. You will find yourself having to put conscious energy into creating this process.
But overtime this process will become as natural as breathing. What that means is that by repetition you have reduced the amount of conscious energy it takes for you to begin solving the problem.
You are now ‘naturally’ gravitating to this problem solving process…
And yet there may come a time where you are stuck.
What does stuck really mean? Stuck just means that now you don’t know how to look at the problem in an innovative way. You cannot imagine another way to solve the problem.
You ALWAYS move to the pen and paper (or whatever it is that you do).
In order to get out of this stuck-ness…there is a need to apply energy.
Why energy? Because now the way you think comes so naturally to you…there is an actual inertia to your thought process.
Because your thought process is not just in your mind…it’s also in your actions! Your actions are now in sync with your thought process.
Whatever the process you have chosen…your life routines are built around it. The way you have structured your environment is built around it. What you buy is built around it.
If you now need to change all of that? You need to spend energy.
The first step would be to become aware of the process that you follow. That itself will begin to consume more and more energy than you perhaps anticipated. Because you need to spend energy to slow down and see what you’re doing!
It is so much easier when someone else can see what we are doing and tell us about it. It is also so much worse! Because if you weren’t aware of your process…then perhaps you also don’t know where the process is redundant. The process could even be hurting you…or hurting others.
To have that pointed out? It can be a rude shock.
But perhaps you are now becoming aware about it yourself.
Once you’re aware then the chain of actions that follow will also begin to become apparent.
What then? Then the process you were following begins to feel excruciating.
The whole point of building processes is that they become easy overtime. They help us navigate the more difficult parts of life with some ease.
A process is a necessity in repetition. Otherwise too many random thoughts can occur that lead us nowhere.
A process is a set of steps built around a core focus. There is a goal that the focus helps us accomplish.
And it is best to invest in a process because overtime the energy consumed by a process becomes less and less…especially if the process is extremely granular and requires multiple steps that deal with multiple issues.
And why is that? Because the more complicated the process…the more it handles the various stages of complexity for you.
Slowly but surely it allows you to think or put energy into thoughts and ideas that perhaps you could not deal with before.
The more you ease into a process…the more you can trust it. Trust is essentially when you spend less energy on thoughts that are causing you to stay alert.
So let’s say…when you begin to trust that the electric shaver you own is not going to electrocute you…you can use it without getting too worried about touching it to your body!
Then you don’t to spend a constant stream of energy into staying alert.
Trust is just a reduction of the energy required in an environment.
So let’s say that you are using a process and it does make your life simpler…but you’re not happy with the outcomes.
And why is that?
Perhaps that’s because while the process might work…it is not directed at the right place.
Because whatever thought you put your energy into…that thought will begin to manifest. Slowly but surely through your actions you will start creating the tiny things required to make the thought come to reality.
So if you are feeling unfulfilled…perhaps it is time to go back to the thing you want manifested in the first place.
What is your area of FOCUS? What is it that you want to focus on?
And how are you going about solving that problem?
This is where a new burst of energy is required. This is where one encounters the problems of getting stuck.
Also this is where people speak of compromise. Compromise is just an enforced attempt at creating a new reality for oneself to come to terms with.
Perhaps the other visions you had require you to expend energy that you don’t have. Perhaps you are not willing to spend that much energy onto that thought.
And so it is time to move away and try to create a new reality to live with. To tell yourself that it won’t be possible for your to fulfil that vision and move towards something else instead.
But the heart wants what the heart wants…
And this is where the energy theory in absolute pure physics terms is a very difficult one to articulate.
Let me go back to the beginning.
I have spoken about how thoughts consume energy, how we solve issues, how we can get stuck. Then I explained processes and how they conserve energy. But also…processes can become dissatisfying eventually.
So what is the purpose of expending energy? Clearly when it comes to living organisms the goal is to acquire energy and conserve energy over time? That would be the logical goal.
Except that human beings don’t work like that. We also have to expend energy to achieve goals outside of us that then allow us to reach different energy states inside.
I’m talking about emotions. Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Depression, Shame, etc. are all states of energy.
HOW we expend energy outside allows us to reach different stages of energy inside us.
But without a focus on what state we wish to achieve…without an underlying focus…we don’t get anywhere!
So what actions does it translate to?
The first step to efficient use of energy is to clear the vision of where the energy needs to be spent.
Once the focus begins to clear…the energy expenditure also begins to improve. Because if you can see where you want to go, the chances of you actually going there are better.
If you allow other things to block your vision…then overtime you might move to those things instead. And that basically is where the notions of failure set in.
I believe that you have never failed at anything. You just lost sight of your vision. Or perhaps there were certain visions that you couldn’t leave because of your conditioning.
It could be nature or nurture…either way you couldn’t focus quite as well as you needed to.
All in all…the idea is to clear your vision…and then allow that to guide you. You don’t even have to try very hard.
Once the vision is clear…the processes required to achieve it become easier…and then you can slowly but surely move towards it.
Also…it will be extremely slow initially. You’re fighting your own momentum.
So the first step really is to slow down. And cease all processes. That too will take energy. But the energy required will be to be still first.
And then…you can begin to spend energy in the direction of your choice.
